Sponsor Representative Steele told the committee the bill would require LARA to issue or deny a license within 90 days for most professions and within 30 days for real-estate brokers. If the department fails to meet the deadline the applicant would receive a refund and a 15% discount on the next renewal. The bill would also exempt deployed military service members from license fees and continuing-education requirements while they are serving, preserving their professional standing while on active duty.
Steele said the changes aim to increase efficiency and hold the agency to private-sector service expectations. LARA staff reached out to the sponsor's office and suggested implementation amendments, Steele said, and the sponsor indicated openness to agency-suggested technical changes.
The committee did not vote on the bill during this hearing.
