Library sprinkler repairs found leaks; repairs drained savings and delayed parking-lot work

Muskego — Library staff told trustees on Oct. 21 that an extensive sprinkler-system testing program uncovered leaks that required repair, and the expense used the library’s savings and contributed to a delay in completing a parking-lot project.
According to the director, city maintenance recently discovered the library was behind on required multi-year sprinkler tests (a 20‑year test and a three‑year test). Technicians found low air pressure in the lines, traced and patched leaks, and completed the required tests. One minor leak remains behind drywall at the circulation desk and was left in place to avoid disruptive interior work.
Staff said the repairs exhausted the library’s savings — the director said, “We spent our entire savings” — and that is why a planned full parking-lot repair was not completed. Trustees asked which contractor handled the replacement and whether the same vendor should be used for future work; staff will check procurement records and vendor history with city maintenance.
Trustees were told the system now passes required tests, the fire department participated in testing, and the remaining leak is holding at an acceptable level without immediate structural work. The board asked staff to obtain specifics on what was replaced and on contractor continuity for future maintenance.
