The Elkhart Common Council adopted proposed Ordinance 25‑0‑33, which fixes the salaries and wages of appointed officers and salaried employees for calendar year 2026, during the Oct. 16, 2025 special meeting.
A motion to reduce the schedule to 2025 rates was made on the floor but failed for lack of a second. Councilman Henke raised concerns about pay disparities between clerical and patrol positions during discussion but the council proceeded to roll call votes. The ordinance passed on final reading with a recorded 9–0 outcome on the third and final vote.
Councilmembers opened the public comment period on the ordinance; no members of the public spoke. The clerk completed the roll call and the ordinance was adopted.
