Director reports facility improvements; public asks about vacancy on commission

The transit director reported a string of facility and equipment updates to the Wausau Transit Commission on Oct. 16, saying supervisors’ vehicles had been replaced, a new Silverado utility truck had been delivered for shelter maintenance work, asbestos removal and new flooring at the facility are complete, and painting of office areas is done.
“The asbestos has been removed from our facility. All the new flooring's been installed. We painted the entire office area,” the director said. The director also said a drain project was scheduled to begin the week following the meeting so work could be completed before grant money expired.
During a brief public-question exchange, a member of the public asked when the mayor would appoint someone to fill the vacancy left by Gary Gessman. The mayor said the pool of volunteers was small, that officials wanted to understand skill sets before making an appointment and that they hoped to fill the vacancy before the commission’s next meeting.
The commission adjourned after the updates and a motion to close the meeting passed unanimously.
