Perkins Jones Road to close for sanitary sewer extension funded by Amazon; county to advertise 2025 road rehab bids

County Engineer Gary Schaeffer told commissioners the engineer's office will ask the clerk to advertise for sealed bids for the 2025 road rehabilitation program and described needed improvements to several local roadways.
Schaeffer also said Perkins Jones Road will be closed to through traffic from July 14 to Sept. 19 to allow sanitary sewer extension work related to a new facility; local traffic and emergency access will be maintained. He said paving will occur later in the fall for safety reasons.
On the sanitary sewer extension, staff said the main line is being extended as a private project paid by Amazon. Schaeffer said Amazon will install a six‑inch mainline through the property but will not pay for individual homeowner lateral connections; residents must pay permits and connection costs. County staff said homeowners will typically have six months after substantial completion to connect, with a possible extension for legitimate reasons.
Schaeffer said about 20–30 homes will be affected, including an apartment complex; an inspector will monitor the contractor’s work. Commissioners agreed to proceed with bid advertising for the road rehab work and to authorize the local traffic closure for the sewer project.
