The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a proclamation declaring Sept. 26, 2025, as Rotary International District 5500 Day in Tubac, Ariz.
The proclamation, read aloud during the board's meeting, described Rotary International as an organization with roughly 1.2 million members across more than 200 nations and cited the service organization’s contribution of about 47 million volunteer hours annually. It said Rotary International District 5500 comprises more than 50 Rotary clubs and about 1,400 members in Southern Arizona and noted a district conference scheduled in September 2025 at the Tubac Golf Resort & Spa.
Board action was brief. After the proclamation reading, a supervisor moved to approve and adopt the proclamation and another supervisor seconded; the presiding officer called for a voice vote and announced the motion carried unanimously. The meeting then moved to adjournment.
The proclamation encourages residents to honor Rotary International District 5500’s stated commitments to humanitarian service, diversity and inclusion, and high ethical standards. The board did not take other formal actions related to the proclamation, and no funding or regulatory measures were proposed during the discussion.
The meeting opened with the pledge of allegiance, led by Mauricio, before the proclamation item was read and voted on. The board adjourned immediately after the vote.
