Animal control reports net income, high adoption and TNR activity; committee approves related claims

Grundy County animal control staff reported department finances and operational totals for August and described an active adoption and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) effort that staff said has reduced shelter counts.
Animal-control staff reported August income of $15,228.67, total department expenses of $8,271.65 and payroll of $18,216.10. At the end of August the shelter had seven dogs and 27 cats (37 animals total). Staff said the department had taken in 59 animals since September (transcript wording) and had 56 animals leave via rescue or adoption during the same timeframe. Staff credited resident donations and a robust Facebook presence, and said the TNR program (noted as operating mainly in Morris and other towns) helps reduce in-town cat numbers; staff also said TNR barn-homing for feral cats is handled without charging adoption fees.
Staff noted a three-year licensing (transcript: "3 year altered tax") fee increase of $5 effective in January that is expected to raise at least $10,000 in additional revenue this fiscal year, and said department finances are not in a deficit position.
