District to meet village and nonprofit after plan commission recommends approval for domestic violence facility near schools

Superintendent Dr. D. Glickman told trustees Wednesday that the Grayslake Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals recommended zoning approval for a proposed A Safe Place facility intended to support survivors of domestic abuse and violence.
Glickman said the village board has not yet voted on the project. She is arranging a meeting with village officials, representatives of A Safe Place and District 127 to discuss what a facility inside or near District 46 boundaries might mean for schools, transportation and student enrollment patterns.
"We intend to ask what do they see as being an impact on our school district, what support and resources might the district need to provide," Glickman said. District staff said they will ask about transportation and McKinney-Vento obligations, and about how many resident students the facility might generate as the proposal is implemented in stages.
Why it matters: The presence of a residential support facility can affect enrollment, transportation and student services. The district plans to gather information before making any operational or policy decisions.
