During public comment at the Sept. 17 Public Safety Committee meeting, a speaker representing Audit LA asked the committee to prioritize enforcement against private security that the speaker said is policing L. Ron Hubbard Way without a city contract.
The speaker said Scientology’s guards “push” residents and sometimes instruct them to leave, creating fear among nearby hospital staff and community members who assume the guards are legitimate law enforcement. The commenter called the conduct “color of law” and urged the committee to investigate impersonation of officers, impose fines and enforce wage laws; the speaker told the committee they had court testimony indicating some guards earned $47 per week and worked more than 100 hours, a claim the speaker attributed to a recent court filing.
The comment was part of the public‑comment period; the committee did not take immediate formal action on the remarks during the meeting.
