Newport fire department installs ConX training containers at municipal site

Newport’s Fire/EMS department reported on Aug. 18 that it has obtained three ConX shipping containers for use as a training facility at a city-owned site near the salt bin.
Fire Chief described the containers as relocated from Bellevue Dayton and said public works prepared a gravel pad to set the units in place. The chief said a chain-link fence installation is scheduled and staff hope to add landscaping, paint and possibly murals depending on funding availability. The training site will allow construction of interior half-walls and reconfigurable layouts for realistic drills that are difficult to replicate inside the existing fire bay.
The chief emphasized that the containers will not be burned for live-fire training; smoke-generating devices may be used only with public notice. The department expects to permit joint training with nearby agencies and anticipates some police department use as well.
Ending: Staff said further improvements will depend on funding and volunteer support; initial site security and access work is underway.
