The Burlington Public Schools School Committee on Sept. 21 voted unanimously on a set of administrative and program items, including acceptance of a state DESE grant to support early literacy, approvals of school handbooks and a civil-rights food-services policy, and approvals related to the Fox Hill school building project. Committee members also noted that Town Meeting approved an appropriation for the Burlington High School project and that the selectmen set a Nov. 15 special election date for a debt-exclusion vote.
The committee voted 5–0 to accept a competitive DESE grant (FC593) in the amount of $456,617 to support pre-K through grade 3 literacy implementation. Lisa (staff member) told the committee, “We were awarded dollars 456,617,” and said the grant will fund coaching and implementation support ($225,000), compensate participating educators ($34,000), and purchase additional CKLA print and digital materials…
