Dalton City Mayor and Council on Oct. 20 approved converting a portion of West Hawthorne Street into an all-way stop to improve pedestrian crossing safety near a Creative Arts Guild facility the organization plans to use.
Public works staff said the department conducted an intersection control warrant analysis and concluded the location did not meet yield-control criteria or allow flashing beacons because of low vehicle volumes and proximity requirements for beacons. “This does not meet a yield control only due to the low volumes of through the corridor for for veil traffic as well as side distances do not exactly permit either for flashing beacons,” a staff presenter said, adding the all-way stop would provide a safe crossing in compliance with ATCD specifications.
Council members moved and seconded the measure and approved it; the transcript does not include a recorded roll-call tally. No timeline for installation or specific signage details were provided in the meeting record.
