District reports steady teacher attendance; some staff absences examined

Glynn County Schools presented staff-attendance rates at the Sept. 4 work session and reported stable overall teacher attendance across the district.
The staff presenter said elementary teacher attendance averaged 95.76%, middle schools 95.7% and high schools 96.08%. The presenter noted that some individual staff members exceeded 10 or more absence days for reasons such as childbirth, surgery or medical leave; principals have reviewed those personnel cases and, in some instances, staff no longer work for the district.
Board members asked about schools with higher percentages of staff missing 10+ days and whether turnover correlated with attendance. The presenter said principals and supervisors had already addressed specific staff attendance concerns and that some schools with improved attendance also showed corresponding student achievement gains.
