Staff outlines ‘20 first century’ after-school grant plan and asks board to approve funding later

The elementary programs are sited at Altam Elementary, Goodyear Elementary and Burrows Mallette; the grade-6 program operates in all four middle schools, the presenter said.
Students receive roughly one hour of academic enrichment followed by extracurricular activities delivered in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club; the program provides an afternoon snack and may provide a meal. Staff said transportation was the largest barrier to middle-school participation and reported adding evening transportation options at two middle schools to boost attendance.
The presenter said the district must present the grant to the board for funding approval and would request that approval at an upcoming meeting; no vote was recorded on Sept. 4.
