The Glendora Board of Library Trustees on Tuesday administered the oath of office to two new trustees, reorganized its leadership, approved the board—s goals-setting process for fiscal year 2025—6 and received updates from library managers on payments, vendor processing and summer reading outcomes.
Deputy City Clerk and Records Manager Roxanne Braceleta administered the oath to Deborah (Debbie) Hall and Lisa Long. After the swearing-in, trustees nominated and selected Erica Lanman as chair by acclamation and Tricia Bogle as vice chair. The board also appointed Trustee Lisa Long and Vice Chair Tricia Bogle as liaisons to the Friends Foundation.
The personnel and governance actions preceded staff reports from Library Services Managers Donna Dukes and Cindy Romero on operational changes and programs. Dukes told the board that the library has implemented credit-card payment at the self-service printing station: "we were actually able to get that implemented. So if you visit the library, you can actually see the credit card terminal at the print station," she said. Dukes said fines and fees can now be paid online through the library—s My Account portal and that staff are "working with finance on the third part of that, which is the public copier."
Romero reported on the Summer Discovery Challenge, calling it "a huge success" and saying the library recorded "over 2,600 total participants during the summer." Romero said the program recorded more than "28,000 days read" across participants and roughly "12,000 of those activities were completed over the summer." She said the program was redesigned to ask participants how many days they read for 30 minutes or more rather than measuring total minutes.
As part of circulation and collection updates, Dukes said the library has expanded a vendor pre-processing program so a larger portion of new materials will arrive shelf-ready with labels and spine markings. Dukes and Romero also said staff have been implementing a state mandate, referenced in the meeting as SB 321, intended to encourage libraries and public schools to work together so more children have library cards by third grade; staff reported meetings with administrators at GUSD and "COUSD" and a plan to promote digital and student cards through back-to-school events.
Staff also noted recent and upcoming community programming: the library hosted two interns from a sister city program (referred to in the meeting as MOCA), partnered on regional exhibits and programs (including speakers from USC and the Autry Museum of the West and educational activity from the La Brea Tar Pits), and planned the kickoff of Battle of the Books in the Bidwell Forum. Managers said library staff visited nine back-to-school nights over two weeks to promote student card outreach.
On routine business, the board approved the consent calendar including the minutes from June 16, 2025. The minutes vote was recorded as passing with three affirmative votes and two abstentions (the meeting record shows the two newly seated trustees did not vote on the prior meeting—s minutes). The board then voted to adopt the board goals process for fiscal year 2025—6; the goals motion passed unanimously in a 5-0 recorded roll call.
Chair Lanman closed the meeting after board and staff remarks; the meeting record shows adjournment at 7:28 p.m.
The changes to payments, materials processing and the summer program are operational steps library managers said are intended to improve patron convenience and increase early-childhood card ownership and participation in library programs. The board—s adoption of the goals process sets the trustees— schedule for drafting board priorities for the coming fiscal year.
