Fort Atkinson council approves Kiwanis Field improvements at Rock River Park

The Fort Atkinson City Council on Sept. 2 approved a public monument review and site improvements for Kiwanis Field at Rock River Park, including installation of an accessible hard‑surface path to the fields, bleacher pads and new aluminum bleachers, a concrete concession patio and plans for upgraded field lighting.
Director Ben Dean presented the project and introduced John Coutts of the local Kiwanis Club, who said the club has led the effort for three years. Coutts said fundraising is complete and groups supporting the project include the Kiwanis Club, Fort Atkinson Youth Tackle Football, Jefferson County Youth Soccer Club and a grant from the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation. "We're hoping to do it yet this fall," Coutts said, adding competitive bidding is complete and some work is planned after the start of the fall football season.
Dean told the council the plan was reviewed and received positive recommendations from parks and recreation staff, the parks and rec advisory board and the plan commission, and that the project is supported by the city's comprehensive outdoor recreation plan and comprehensive land use plan. Council members expressed gratitude to the Kiwanis Club and other donors.
A motion to approve the public monument review for the Kiwanis Field improvements carried on a voice vote.
