Plan Commission approves minutes, hears updates on city-owned lots and business park closings

At its July 8 meeting the Fort Atkinson Plan Commission approved minutes from its June 10 and June 24 meetings and received updates on several city-owned properties and recently approved plats.
The commission voted to approve the minutes for both prior meetings after motions and seconding; voice votes recorded members saying “aye” with no opposition noted in the transcript.
Staff reported an accepted offer to purchase one of six city-owned infill lots on Grove and Maple Street with a closing set for the end of July. Staff also said the city is scheduled to close on Lots 12 and 13 in the Clement Business Park on Friday, July 11; once that sale completes, the new property owner will bring site and engineering plans back to the commission for review and approval at a later date.
A commissioner asked about the history and rationale for the Main Street sign ordinance that disallows projecting/perpendicular signs; staff said the rule was part of the zoning rewrite in 2019–2020 and that staff will research the ordinance’s origins and report back at a future meeting. Commissioners discussed pedestrian circulation through a downtown parking area during the earlier sign-package item and expressed interest in sharing ideas with property owners for potential future improvements.
