Okaloosa County to Reconstruct Polley Creek Bridge; Adjacent Landowner to Receive Bridge Materials

Okaloosa County’s public works department reported Oct. 7 that the county will replace the Polley Creek Bridge on Old River Road and approved an agreement allowing county crews to access adjacent private property to complete the work; in exchange, the adjacent landowner will receive bridge materials after the county deconstructs the structure.
Rob Vandenberg, standing in for Scott Bitterman, said the county needs to remove trees and trim vegetation on adjacent property to complete the replacement work. "In exchange for the right to access that property, mister Henry has asked for the materials of that bridge when we deconstruct it to be placed on his property," Vandenberg said. The arrangement will reduce county hauling and disposal costs.
Public-works staff estimated the used timbers from the existing bridge to be worth about $1,000 and stated the materials of the new bridge would be approximately $50,000 in value. The board moved to approve the agreement and the chair recorded unanimous approval.
