City staff told the Oviedo Public Art Board that the ranking for the selected beverage-cup design will go to city council on Oct. 20 and that council will be asked to approve the ranking. Staff said a resolution is expected to approve the ranking; if council adopts the ranking, the top-ranked designer will be awarded the contract.
Board members asked whether businesses using the cup will be responsible for printing costs. Staff confirmed that restaurants and vendors would cover their own screen-printing and purchasing costs; the city will not purchase cups for businesses.
Staff clarified intellectual-property arrangements: the city will obtain exclusive rights to the logo through the contract with the artist. A vendor could not unilaterally print and sell goods bearing the logo without permission; the city could choose to license use to businesses under separate agreements.
Board members also discussed whether alcoholic beverages in the park would be required to use the new cup; staff responded that park alcohol rules would require beverage-cup use where applicable and that the city is developing a process for licensing and trademark registration through city administration and the assistant city manager.
Staff said the ranking presented to the council will show the top four options and that council could change the ranking prior to awarding the contract.
