At its meeting, the Oviedo Public Art Board voted to nominate a representative to speak before the Community Redevelopment Agency and Oviedo City Council asking for funding for a mural and a sculpture and for council approval to advertise a call to artists.
The board learned the request for funding and the advertisement will be on the CRA and city-council agendas on Oct. 20. The board asked the staff to provide a short briefing ahead of council and to walk the speaker through the remarks expected at each meeting.
Board members discussed attendance at the two meetings and emphasized that as many board members as possible should attend, while only one person needed to make the formal ask. A motion to designate a board member to represent the Public Art Board passed during the meeting. The minutes of the board’s Sept. 17 meeting were also approved as amended earlier in the session.
Staff said CRA would consider the funding request and city council would consider the advertisement and ranking for the call to artists. The board requested that staff circulate a short “cheat sheet” of talking points and arrive early to the council meeting to review the presentation if the representative wanted assistance.
The board asked staff to notify the board members when the call to artists officially opens so members can share it through their networks once the advertisement window is live.
Votes at a glance: • Approval of minutes (Sept. 17) — motion to approve as amended; outcome recorded as approved. • Motion to nominate a board representative to speak before the CRA and city council on the call-to-artists funding and advertisement — motion passed (outcome recorded as approved).
