The Clermont City Council on Oct. 14 tabled consideration of a direct purchase of a floating dock system after several council members raised procurement and cost concerns.

What council discussed Public Works staff said the purchase covered the dock system itself and that separate contracts on installation and additional pilings are out for proposals. Staff said the new design includes midpoint pilings to address failures in prior storms and that the rowing club (the primary user) reviewed and approved the proposed configuration. A public‑facing number cited in the meeting was “somewhere in the neighborhood of $350,000” for the dock system.
Several council members said a portion of the procurement was issued as a seven‑day notice of intent to use a sole‑source provider; one council member said other manufacturers exist and that the solicitation was written to specifications that only one firm could meet. Concerns focused on $20,000 ramp line items, the lack of competing bids for ancillary work and the absence of documentation showing the three regattas the rowing club hopes to host next year.
Council action After debate, a motion to table item 7 to the Oct. 28 council meeting passed. Council asked staff to pursue additional pricing options, provide documentation about the proposed regattas, and report back on procurement outreach and installation contracting options.
