The Johnston County Board of Commissioners approved several routine and ceremonial items during the Oct. 6 morning session.
Consent agenda: The board approved a consent agenda that included six items: minutes from Sept. 2 morning and evening sessions; additions to the DOT system; reappointment of animal cruelty officers; multiple board appointments (some requiring waivers of length‑of‑service policy); budget revisions for the library and the sheriff’s department; and tax releases and refunds for the period Aug. 16–Sept. 15. Commissioners approved the consent agenda by voice vote.
Proclamations and ceremonial recognitions: The board adopted proclamations and observances by voice vote: - Operation Green Light for Veterans: designated November 2025 as a time to “salute and honor” transitioning service members and encouraged citizens and municipalities to display a green light; - County Employee Appreciation Week: proclaimed the week of Oct. 20–24, 2025 as County Employee Appreciation Week and praised county employees’ service; - National 4‑H Week: proclaimed October 2025 as National 4‑H Week and heard remarks from Meredith Wood and 4‑H leaders; - Domestic Violence Awareness Month: proclaimed October 2025 and received remarks from Harbor (domestic violence services) executive director Kaye Johnson.
Board appointments: Several boards had more applicants than openings. Commissioners completed ballots for contested positions (Alcoholic Beverage Control board, Child Fatality Prevention Team, Fire Protection Service District Commission, Planning Board, Tourism Authority) and the clerk will announce results at the evening meeting.
