Board approves contract amendment, sets start date for Johnson County Regional Park phase 1

The Johnston County Board of Commissioners approved a contract amendment Oct. 20 for the design-build agreement on phase 1 of the Johnson County Regional Park.
Parks and Open Space project lead Adrian O’Neil told the board that, contingent on the amendment, the official project start date will be Nov. 3. Staff proposed a public groundbreaking between Thanksgiving and Christmas, likely Dec. 5 or Dec. 12, and an anticipated completion date of September 2026, subject to weather and construction conditions.
O’Neil said the amendment “solidifies the discussions we had last meeting” and that the funding for this item will come from the county’s open space fund. Commissioners approved the amendment after a brief discussion and motion.
What’s next: With the amendment approved, the county will proceed with the design-build start and scheduling of a public groundbreaking. Staff will continue to coordinate with the design-build contractor and monitor the schedule and budget.
