Council members asked about event permits for the Salty Tarpon and the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade and urged staff to provide stronger public notification so residents are not surprised by road closures.
A council member noted past frustration when high-school and other parades closed roads and urged the city to better promote closures to minimize disruption for residents commuting home. Staff replied the city will share information with the Chamber of Commerce and issue a media release; the council was told the city can provide information but cannot compel individuals to seek it out.
Council also briefly discussed boat ramp parking fees and ward bylaw amendments; the clerk advised that bylaw changes affecting board membership (chapter 7 and 7.2 references) may require ordinance readings, and staff described the process for making those changes with the required public hearings and readings.
