City urban design staff reported a rezoning effort for the Magdalena area intended to change the future land use and zoning map from single-family to a general multifamily designation permitting 10 dwelling units per lot.
Carl Benz, urban design, told the pre-agenda meeting: "Yes. We've drafted the ordinance for the rezone for the future land use, for the changing of the zoning map. It's all getting approved right now. We'll have to take that to planning commission, and then you guys will see it." Council members clarified the multifamily density intended: the staff confirmed the designation being pursued is the general multifamily 10-dwelling-unit category rather than a 15-unit category.
Staff said the ordinance will proceed to the Planning Commission for review before final council readings. No public hearing or formal vote was recorded in the pre-agenda discussion; the item will follow the usual ordinance process, including public notice and the Planning Commission review.
