The House Health and Welfare Committee voted to send House Bill 29, an annual update to the state's Controlled Substances Act, to the House floor with a due pass recommendation.
Representative Marco Erickson, the bill sponsor, said Idaho updates its schedules independently of federal rules and sometimes diverges from federal scheduling after review by a state panel. Representative Erickson said the bill updates the state’s scheduling of certain drugs to reflect current practice.
During committee questions, Representative McCain relayed constituent concerns about zuranolon, a medication for postpartum depression, asking why it would be scheduled. Representative Erickson explained that newly marketed controlled substances are commonly placed on a schedule (in this case schedule IV) so they can be lawfully shipped into the state and monitored while being available for appropriate medical use.
Representative Redmond moved to send House Bill 29 to the floor with a due pass recommendation; the committee approved the motion by voice vote. Representative Erickson will be the floor sponsor.
