Senate Agriculture Committee holds brief organizational meeting; introduces page and schedules rules review

The Senate Agriculture Committee met for a brief organizational session during which Sen. Tammy Nichols, chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, introduced the committee’s page and asked members to review Department of Agriculture materials in their meeting packets.
"Agriculture is such a vital and critical part to our state," Nichols said as she opened the meeting and introduced the committee’s page, Gage Griffin. "I really want this committee to elevate in its own essence and to become something that, really makes a difference here in the state."
The meeting served as an orientation: committee members introduced themselves and described their districts and ties to agricultural communities. Gage Griffin, the committee’s page, told senators he attends Emmett High School and is a member of the class of 2025. "I'm a fan of cars. I love to work on older cars. I love to restore them," Griffin said. He also described a small clothing business he launched focused on suicide prevention and mental-health awareness and said sales have started locally while a website is being built.
Vice Chair Sen. Christy Zito told Griffin she would like to discuss his suicide-prevention work further. "I'm on the board of Bridging the Gap, a suicide prevention organization in Mountain Home. So at some point, when you have a few minutes, maybe we could visit about what you're doing," Zito said.
Nichols told members that packets included a 2024 performance report from the Department of Agriculture and the department’s strategic plan and asked members to review those documents. She also said the committee will begin a rules review on Thursday and that Zito will provide additional information at that meeting.
Aside from introductions and the scheduling direction on rules review, the meeting included no formal votes or policy actions. The session concluded after roughly 15–16 minutes with plans to reconvene for the rules review on Thursday.
The meeting record shows senators from largely agricultural districts represented at the session and included brief personal and district introductions that committee leadership said would help frame future work.
