The system will deliver real-time notices about urgent public-safety and operational events, including storm preparation, road closures, boil-water notices and reminders about major city events, Daugherty said. “You’ll get real time alerts straight to your phone so you could be prepared and informed when it matters most,” he said.
Daugherty described the sign-up process as quick and said messages will be sent only when needed. “Signing up is quick and easy. Just visit the city website at deltonafl.gov and click the emergency text alert button,” he said. He added that the sign-up control appears as a blue button on the city’s main webpage.
City officials framed the system as a way to reduce the need for residents to search multiple sources for time-sensitive updates. Daugherty said the city will not send texts regularly but will use the channel for important alerts.
No costs, data-retention practices, or third-party vendors for the system were mentioned in the announcement.
