Miami Law Innocence Clinic credited with freeing man who served 8.5 years

Craig Tercino, an assistant professor of clinical education at the University of Miami School of Law and director of the Miami Law Innocence Clinic, told meeting attendees that the clinic helped secure the release of Dustin Doody, who was convicted of a crime he did not commit and served 8.5 years in prison.
"I'm just so grateful that the University of Miami and the School of Law allows the clinic to exist, and its existence is important to everybody in particular important to the clients that we help," Tercino said. He said Doody was released in October 2021 after about six and a half years of legal work on the case.
Tercino said roughly 18 students worked on the case over the years. He called the students and the university administration "amazing," and added that the clinic continues to work on similar cases. He closed his remarks with "Happy birthday Miami."
