Matthew Scribe, presenting for the State Board of Education, said IDLA asked to add language that clarifies "approved site under protected conditions" and explicitly references comprehensive final projects as an acceptable assessment. "It was a lot of the times we see these teachers moving away from high stakes exams to final projects," Scribe said, describing IDLA's interest in offering locally coordinated final assessments and working with districts during end‑of‑course evaluation.
The rule language aims to foster more cooperative arrangements with local districts for course finals and to reflect instructional practices used in online and blended settings. The committee did not take votes; staff said they would continue rulemaking work and provide incorporated references as requested by legislators.
