Representative Joe Palmer (R-20, Meridian) told the committee he reintroduced House Bill 8, legislation carried last year that removes obsolete sections of Idaho Code related to the Public Utilities Commission. "Basically it takes out of current Code ... sections of Code that are no longer needed," Palmer said, adding that the measure had previously passed the House with 70 yes votes but was held up in the Senate when time ran out.
Palmer said technical staff from the Public Utilities Commission were available to answer questions; Representative Keely's thanked PUC staff for clarifications that were helpful. Representative Nicholson moved the committee recommendation that House Bill 8 be reported to the floor with a do-pass recommendation. The committee held no public testimony and voted by voice to send the bill to the floor; the transcript records a voice vote and does not include a roll-call tally.
Palmer told the committee that if there are specific technical questions the PUC representatives present could address them. The committee did not record amendments in the transcript; the bill will next appear on the House floor for consideration by the full chamber.
