Elizabeth Elroy emphasizes industry and environmental experience in Board of Environmental Quality reappointment hearing

Elizabeth (Beth) Elroy appeared before a Senate committee seeking reappointment to the Idaho Board of Environmental Quality.
Elroy described her Idaho roots, a mathematics degree from the College of Idaho, a master’s in environmental engineering from Idaho State University, and more than 20 years at Micron where she has served in environmental, construction and operations roles. She currently serves as vice president of global environmental safety, health and sustainability.
Elroy told senators the board's strengths include retaining technical leadership in the Department of Environmental Quality and the board's technical depth to oversee contested cases. When Sen. Cherie Harris asked for specific successes, Elroy pointed to staff talent and the board's capacity to handle complex contested cases brought before it.
Sen. Larry Shippey asked Elroy about agricultural risks to the environment and about cloud seeding. Elroy said she is not an expert on either topic and deferred to agricultural experts on farming practices; she said she will continue to learn about cloud seeding.
The committee did not vote on Elroy's reappointment during the recorded session; members said they will vote on the nomination at the committee's next meeting.
