State officials: Career-technical education enrollment up sharply; students, CTSOs highlight benefits

Idaho State Board of Education Executive Director Josh Whitworth told the Senate Education Committee that the state's Division of Career Technical Education (CTE) has grown rapidly in recent years and now serves tens of thousands of students.
Whitworth said the division now serves about 72,000 students in CTE programs and that participation represents roughly 71% of Idaho high school students. "Our mission is to prepare Idaho's youth and adults for high-skill, in-demand careers," he told the committee, noting the division oversees secondary CTE through technical colleges as well as related programs such as fire-service and motorcycle training in rural communities.
