Georgia Council on Aging seeks coordinator to expand elder‑abuse multidisciplinary teams

The Georgia Council on Aging asked the House appropriations subcommittee on May 20 for FY2026 funding to create a statewide coordinator position to support multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) focused on elder abuse and exploitation.
Council Executive Director Deborah Stokes told the committee that MDTs are already operating in five circuits and that a coordinator would support those teams and collect program data to demonstrate impact and encourage other circuits to form MDTs. Stokes described MDTs as a collaborative model that brings prosecutors, adult-protective services, law enforcement, victim advocates and service providers together to investigate and prosecute elder-abuse matters and to provide coordinated victim services.
The council said stakeholders across the aging-advocacy and criminal-justice communities support the coordinator idea and that the request responds to an initiative the council began two years earlier to develop statewide MDT capacity for elder-abuse cases. The council asked that the committee support a single coordinator to expand coverage and track performance metrics.
The subcommittee did not take votes during the presentation; the Council on Aging said it would provide additional program information following the hearing.
