Wheat Ridge Mayor Bud Starker said the city's Wadsworth Boulevard project is on track to complete active construction by the end of 2025, with landscaping work expected to finish in 2026.
The project “will ease traffic, enhance safety, and create a welcoming space for pedestrians and cyclists benefiting local businesses and the community,” Starker said, describing Wadsworth as “one of the most ambitious projects the city has ever undertaken.” He added that, as Wadsworth wraps up, the city will shift attention to voter-approved 2J projects that address drainage, sidewalk connectivity, bike lanes and “small infrastructure improvements throughout the city.”
Starker said details on the 2J projects are expected to be announced later this year. The mayor did not specify funding sources, contract awards, or firm timelines beyond the construction and landscaping dates he provided for Wadsworth Boulevard.
City officials have cited traffic relief, safety improvements and support for pedestrians and cyclists as goals for Wadsworth. The mayor framed the work as part of a broader effort to make Wheat Ridge more connected and sustainable while supporting local businesses.
Officials have not yet released detailed schedules or funding breakdowns for the 2J projects; Starker said only that the city will shift focus to those voter-approved initiatives after the current major project completes.
