North Miami Mayor and City Council approved three monthly lobbying contracts and granted several site-plan approvals at their Jan. 14, 2025 regular meeting, City Clerk Vanessa Joseph said in a public recap.
Joseph said the council approved agreements with three lobbying firms — The Southern Group of Florida, Becker & Poliakoff, and Ronald L. Book, P.A. — each for $6,670 per month.
The council also approved a site-plan application for a public self-storage development at 1905 Northeast 146th Street, west of Biscayne Boulevard, Joseph said. The clerk’s recap described the proposal in multiple ways: once as a six-story, approximately 243,000-square-foot facility with 900 square feet of office space and 38 parking spaces; later in the same recap she said the applicant would redevelop an existing facility with a new five-story building and described the new facility as containing approximately 49,000 square feet per floor. Joseph said the existing self-storage facility is 46,400 square feet and that self-storage is permitted by right in the M-1 (industrial) district but requires administrative site-plan review when projects exceed 20,000 square feet.
Joseph reported the council granted site-plan approval for Nomi 6, a proposed 11-story, 240-unit mixed-use building on a 2.74-acre site between Northeast Sixth Avenue and 127th–128th streets. She said the project would include more than 19,000 square feet of retail space, an integrated parking garage with more than 360 spaces, and that the applicant’s attorney told the council 80 to 90 percent of the units will be income-restricted. Joseph said the council had previously approved a conditional-use permit for Nomi 6 in July 2024 and approved the site plan at the Jan. 14 meeting.
Joseph also said the council approved a site-plan application for a 217-foot, 22-story, 267-unit building with an integrated garage at 12000 North Bayshore Drive. She noted that the council had granted the project a conditional-use permit on Nov. 26, 2024 to allow construction at 217 feet, and that that conditional-use permit has been appealed to the 11th Judicial Circuit. Joseph said the council’s site-plan approval is contingent on the 11th Judicial Circuit appellate panel affirming the conditional-use permit.
Joseph’s recap invited residents to apply for city boards and committees and noted a few vacancies remain. She also reminded residents of the council’s regular meeting schedule and how to view agendas and livestreams.
