Longtime director highlights Junior Orange Bowl golf tournament’s role in Coral Gables community

"We were the ones that did the original Santa Park, did a lot of fundraising for the community," the speaker said of the Coral Gables Junior Chamber.
The speaker said they became involved with the Junior Orange Bowl in the mid-1980s and later took on the role of tournament director. They described working with sponsors, the Biltmore and the city of Coral Gables to organize the event and to bring together U.S. and international youth competitors. "I do love the game of golf and just being involved with the kids and seeing the success that they've gone through," the speaker said.
The speaker referenced several well-known past competitors to illustrate the tournament’s history, naming Tiger Woods and saying other notable players had appeared in the event. They emphasized the international aspect, saying participants from different countries form lasting friendships: "…how cool is it that, you know, a kid from Israel is playing golf with a kid from California?"
The speaker concluded by saying that involvement with the Junior Orange Bowl is what makes Coral Gables special: "For me being involved with the Junior Orange Bowl is what makes Coral Gables so special."
