Committee advances bill increasing salaries for three state commissioners
Summary

The committee voted to send Senate Bill 1148 to the House floor with a “do pass” recommendation after an introductory presentation on Feb. 26, 2025.
Keith Bybee, Division Manager in the Budget and Policy Analysis office, summarized the bill, which would statutorily raise annual salaries for commissioners on three named commissions. As presented, the bill would raise the Public Utilities Commission commissioner salary from $126,424 to $129,648; the State Tax Commissioner from $117,396 to $120,620; and Industrial Commission commissioners from $123,126 to $126,350. The change equated to roughly a $1.55 per hour increase when calculated as an hourly delta, per the presentation.
Representative Handy moved to send the bill to the floor with a due pass recommendation. The motion carried by voice vote; Representative Price asked to be recorded as voting nay. The committee will forward SB 1148 to the full House for further action and any funding would be handled in subsequent appropriations.
