Committee introduces RS 32553 to publish K–3 textbook lists and curriculum information

Representative Dale Hawkins, sponsor: "This is the transparency portion. It deals with uploading the curriculum from K through third grade ... I've changed the language to ensure that the districts only have are only required to put a list of the textbooks, they're not required to take copies of pages or anything like that." Hawkins told the House Committee on Education that the proposal responds to previous committee feedback and parents' requests for information about K–3 instruction.
Representative Mathias asked whether the change could have been handled by modifying existing code to require posting on a district website; Hawkins said he did not believe that approach had been pursued and that the RS was the best path. Representative Ehart moved to introduce RS 32553 and commented that the change "is being done in other states and I think it adds a lot of transparency and information for the parents." The committee voted to introduce RS 32553 and the motion carried.
