JFAC approves $1.07 million in supplemental funding for Fish and Game wildfire recovery work

The Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee approved supplemental appropriations to reimburse and continue rehabilitation work carried out by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game following a wildfire in the Boise River Wildlife Management Area.
Janet Jessup explained the department used expendable trust funds to take immediate actions in response to the October fire and sought supplemental appropriations to replace those expenditures and to continue restoration work planned for FY2026. Representative Manwaring moved a FY2025 supplemental of $270,000 from the Fish and Game expendable trust fund to replace funds used for emergency mitigation actions; the motion passed with a combined committee total of 19 ayes, 0 nays and 1 absent/excused.
A second motion provided a one‑time FY2026 appropriation of $800,000 from the Fish and Game expendable trust fund to fund ongoing restoration activities including hazardous fuel treatment, seeding and herbicide application where necessary. Representative Woodward moved the appropriation and Representative Manwaring seconded. The motion carried on roll call with the committee recording majorities in both panels; the chair announced the motion passed and would carry a due‑pass recommendation.
Ending: Fish and Game will be reimbursed for emergency actions already taken and will receive additional one‑time funds to continue rehabilitation of the wildlife area; both actions were approved by JFAC and forwarded with due‑pass recommendations.
