The City Council approved issuance of a retail liquor license to Jose Jose Incorporated, authorizing the proprietor, Jose Garcia Junior, to operate a restaurant with liquor sales.
Jose Garcia Junior introduced himself at the public hearing: "Alright. So I'm Jose Garcia Junior. And as you guys know from your application, I have and I have took over Rogers Meat, and so now we're we're now opening the restaurant. Taking over peppers and doing our own thing there too." Council members asked about timing and how the business will operate; Garcia said they hope to open soon but did not provide a firm date.
Staff reported that Hillside emailed earlier in the day and withdrew its license and indicated support for the restaurant; staff also said Hillside was exploring a limited club license or social club classification with the state liquor division. Council member Ben Lewin moved to award the liquor license to Jose Jose Incorporated; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Council members and staff noted that combining liquor and food for the same vendor would be useful for local large events. The council approved the license and authorized all necessary signatures.
