Committee sends Taiwan-recognition resolution to House floor
Summary
The House State Affairs Committee voted to send House Concurrent Resolution 6, a nonbinding recognition of Idaho’s relationship with Taiwan, to the full House with a due-pass recommendation.
Representative Brit Raybould of District 34 told the House State Affairs Committee he sponsored House Concurrent Resolution 6 to recognize Idaho’s relationship with Taiwan and asked the committee to send the resolution to the floor.
"HCR6 addresses an issue that I think most people on this committee are familiar with which is recognition of our relationship with Taiwan," Representative Brit Raybould said, describing a recent delegation trip he took to the island.
The resolution, as presented, is a recognition of an ongoing cultural and economic relationship rather than a binding change in statute or policy. No members of the public registered to testify on the resolution during the committee hearing. Representative Akiles moved to send HCR6 to the floor with a due-pass recommendation; the motion carried.
Because the measure is a concurrent resolution and was described to the committee as recognitional in nature, sponsors said it does not create new regulatory obligations for state agencies. The committee did not debate amendments or legal text during the brief presentation and vote.
The resolution will be considered next by the full Idaho House.
