Committee introduces several RS measures, including task force and election-crime authority; measures advanced by voice votes

The committee approved introduction of several request statutes (RS) and related measures by voice votes.

Among the items introduced:

- RS 32587: Representative Jaron (Jaren) Crane presented a proposal to establish a "Department of Government Efficiency" legislative task force that would include three House members appointed by the Speaker, three Senate members appointed by the president pro tempore, and three members from the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee. Crane said the task force would review regulatory accountability, budget accountability and government operations; terms would be one year with a sunset date of four years. A committee member asked whether party representation was required; Crane confirmed no party-affiliation requirement appears in the draft language.

- RS 32579: Representative Joe Alfieri described a measure to give the Attorney General authority to investigate and prosecute election crimes in addition to existing roles of the Secretary of State; Alfieri said the bill would give the Attorney General authority but not sole authority.

- RS 32507x (technical amendments): Representative Vito Barbieri asked to move a section of the vital statistics code to a different statutory location and said the amendment would likely go to health and welfare if introduced.
