Idaho lawmaker introduces measure to end twice-yearly clock changes and move state to standard time

Alfieri said research and medical organizations support eliminating the biannual time change. “There is a great deal of evidence that the yearly change back and forth is unhealthy,” Alfieri told the committee, and he cited longstanding positions by the American Medical Association and similar medical groups. He added that Congress would need to act for Idaho to adopt year-round daylight saving time, so the state’s feasible option is to move to permanent standard time.
The RS was introduced for print after a motion by Representative Scott and a voice vote in committee. The sponsor framed the change as a public-health and safety measure, noting darker mornings create safety concerns for children traveling to school.
Committee members offered no substantive amendments during the introductory motion. The motion to introduce RS 32,004 carried by voice vote and the bill will be placed for further committee consideration.
