Courthouse restoration on track for spring milestones; annex bidding set to move forward

The Callahan County facilities committee told commissioners at the March meeting that work on the courthouse restoration is progressing and that the annex project is moving from design to pricing.
Committee representatives said painters expect to finish district court walls this week, after which flooring will be installed. Furniture for courtroom and dais elements is expected around April; the committee plans to store units in the courthouse rather than at a remote storage facility. Landscaping work is scheduled to begin in the next one to two weeks, with the flagpole installation awaiting cement availability.
Contractors are “still shooting for April 30 as a point of completion” for major renovation milestones, the facilities representative said. The committee cautioned that April 30 would be a checkpoint—punch-list items, power, mechanical work and final furniture and computer installations could push an occupied, fully functional move-in toward late fall. The committee also discussed a potential rededication event and public tours being discussed for July 3, though officials said no final date had been set.
The annex project has moved to a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) bidding phase; when the county receives the GMP it will be presented to the commissioners for review before work begins.
No formal votes were required for the update; commissioners asked for continued oversight and requested notice when the GMP is available for board review.
