The Senate Committee on Education reported House Bill 319 favorably after a sponsor said the bill adds Lafourche Parish to the Atchafalaya Heritage Area and increases the commission's membership.
Representative Ozeron said the lieutenant governor's office and his parish president requested the change after Lafourche Parish was added to the parishes covered by the Atchafalaya area. "My parish president asks that I get a seat added, and in the process, they are making some name changes, some technical changes to the naming," Ozeron said. The bill would change the name of the heritage area to include Lafourche Parish and increase the commission's membership from 14 to 15 to add a Lafourche seat.
Proponents including national heritage representatives submitted green cards in support; no opposition was recorded in the transcript. Senator Jackson Andrews moved to report HB319 favorably and there were no objections recorded; the committee advanced the measure by voice.
The bill, as read, amends Title 25 relating to the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area commission and the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area to change the name and add a seat for Lafourche Parish.
