McMinnville — The McMinnville School Board approved an overnight, out-of-state trip April 14 for McMinnville High School welding and fabrication students to attend the Western Welding Academy competition and visit trade programs, including WyoTech.
Chip Ford and Principal Dave Furman presented the request and said the trip will give students exposure to welding competitions and postsecondary training programs; each student attending the Western Welding Academy competition will receive a $1,000 scholarship applicable to the academy. The school will travel jointly with students from other high schools and confirmed required chaperone coverage: a female chaperone who is a university student and a former McMinnville graduate will accompany the group and is undergoing background checks.
Board members praised the program’s industry ties and noted donations and partnerships that support the fabrication program; one board member thanked a local company for in-kind material donations to the classroom.
The board approved the trip on a voice vote.
