Board sets nonresident admission target at 200 for 2025–26 to stabilize enrollment

McMinnville — The McMinnville School District Board of Directors voted unanimously April 14 to set the district’s admission-of-nonresident-student target at 200 for the 2025–26 school year.
Director Courtney Forua presented data showing typical acceptance levels in recent years between about 180 and 200 students and noted that the district opens applications in March, notifies families in July and places students in August. Forua said the recommended cap gives room to accept returning nonresident students and to accept modest additional requests while preserving space for resident students in schools that have limited capacity.
Board members asked whether the policy places a cap on students leaving the district midyear; Forua explained the district generally allows students already placed to remain and that denying placement requests when the cap is reached can create difficult conversations for families. Board members also asked about the special-needs profile of incoming students; Forua said the district could coordinate with special education and other departments to analyze need if the board wanted further detail.
The motion to set the admission target at 200 passed 7–0.
