Josh Whitworth outlines leadership approach in bid for State Board of Education executive director

Whitworth said he is serving in interim leadership roles for career and technical education (CTE) and the Charter Commission and emphasized that those agencies have established staff and leaders; he said his focus is to support and empower those teams. In response to committee questions, he said filling permanent leadership positions for CTE and the Charter Commission is a priority but that searches will take a few months to ensure the right candidates.
Whitworth used a personal anecdote — ‘‘the more you know, the better off you’ll be’’ — to illustrate his belief in hands-on experience and learning across roles. He stood for questions and the committee indicated it would take up confirmation at a later meeting.
