Senate committee hears David Turnbull on nomination to State Board of Education; vote deferred

BOISE — The Senate Education Committee considered the gubernatorial appointment of David Turnbull of Eagle to the Idaho State Board of Education but took no vote on the nomination at the session.
Senate staff read the appointment terms: Turnbull was nominated to serve a term commencing Oct. 23, 2024, and expiring July 1, 2029. Turnbull introduced himself to the committee and described a career in real-estate development and long-term involvement with local school districts in the Treasure Valley. He said he and his family raised four children in the West Ada School District and described firsthand experience with district facilities and interactions with superintendents and school boards.
“[When the governor asked me to consider this position] I had to reflect on it for a couple of months and think about what I might add to the state board,” Turnbull said. He told senators he accepted the governor’s appointment after concluding he could make a positive contribution and said of K‑12 education, “I think education is the most important aspect of our state government.”
Committee members asked no substantive follow-up questions during the public introduction. A committee vote on the appointment was not held; the chair said the appointment will be scheduled for a future vote.
